Surfing detonation waves under UV rays

The detailed waves in the water and clouds in the sky are streak images from detonating our UV curable PBXs that had micro voids machined into them to influence the detonation properties.

Fire Angel

We are seeing the temperature field after a high energy above ground explosion simulated using Pele on the Frontier supercomputer. The reflection of the blast from the ground interacts with the fireball and generates structures resembling an Angel between the vortical structures on either side. Wings* are added to the image to enhance the appearance. *Wings are obtained from https://pixabay.com/illustrations/ai-generated-phoenix-fire-bird-9009434/ which is open and free to use in this artwork.
